Current practice

As Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Shaun leads the State's largest team of lawyers providing specialised litigation and dispute resolution services exclusively to the departments, agencies and office holders of the State of Victoria.
Shaun also shares a leading role in the State's legal response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.


Shaun has 23 years' experience in the law including 5 years as Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor at the VGSO's Police Branch which incorporates the role of Legal Adviser to the Chief Commissioner of Police.  
In that role Shaun led a specialist team of policing lawyers advising Victoria Police on a range of matters including police discipline, police powers, crime, evidence, administrative decisions and State liability.
Prior to joining the VGSO in 2008, Shaun was engaged as a Senior Associate in a national law firm conducting litigation in major commercial and construction disputes. Prior to that, Shaun was a barrister at the Victorian Bar for 10 years, with a broad practice including commercial and tortious claims, as well as a prosecutor for the Office of Public Prosecutions.
Shaun has also served as a Reserve Legal Officer in the Royal Australian Navy for more than 10 years including as a prosecutor in courts-martial, as a legal adviser to the command of naval establishments and as legal representative of Australian Defence Force members facing military discipline or adverse administrative processes.
