Current practice
Liz practises in Commercial Law, primarily providing advice on public sector governance issues, native title matters and general contracting issues.
Experience
Liz joined the VGSO in 2017 as a Trainee Lawyer. Since then she has worked on a diverse range of matters including advising on:
• native title and traditional owner protection issues relevant to public sector infrastructure projects
• contract drafting and management issues
• delegations and authorisations
• compulsory acquisition matters
• statutory interpretation
• legislative development
In 2017, Liz undertook a secondment to Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre, where she worked on a range of matters including infringements.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Liz was a Senior Policy Officer at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) for eight years, focusing on the provision of a wide range of governance and compliance advice to statutory authorities. While at DELWP Liz also led the appointment process for several high profile government boards, and worked within multidisciplinary teams to develop policy and legislation in the climate change and biodiversity areas. Liz has also held a senior policy role in fire management planning at Emergency Management Victoria.
