Join us for our final VGSO Monthly Seminar as Victoria’s human rights investigators, Megan Philpot, Deputy Ombudsman, Andrew Adason, Assistant Ombudsman and Corey Stevens, Principal Investigator explain:

  • their role
  • what they look for when considering public authorities' decisions and actions under the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006
  • how to respond to informal enquiries on individual complaints or larger systemic investigations.

This 1 hour hybrid panel session, chaired and facilitated by Alison O'Brien PSM Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor, will also feature Jacob Coppel, Managing Principal Solicitor of the Human Rights Team at the Victorian Government Solicitors Office. Jacob will give an overview of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006, with particular focus on the obligation to give proper consideration to, and act compatibly with, human rights in everyday decision-making across the public service.

Attendees may be eligible to claim 1 CPD Point in professional skills.

This event will be delivered in a hybrid model - in person and online. 

All attendees will be provided with the online access details. For those attending the in person event please arrive at 12.30pm to enjoy networking and catering. The presentation will begin at 1.00pm. Please note we are unable to take any food and drinks into the Theatrette, so please arrive with enough time to enjoy your lunch before the seminar begins.
