Nicholas advises and represents a range of government clients, including Victoria Police, Corrections Victoria and the Attorney-General's Office. Nicholas' current practice focuses on personal injury claims, police tort claims, coronial inquests and applications and reviews arising under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997. Prior to joining the VGSO in April 2019, Nicholas was a Senior Police Lawyer at Victoria Police where he managed, advised and instructed in a range of litigation and inquest matters involving general and specialist units of Victoria Police.

Nicholas joined the public service in February 2015 as a graduate on the Victorian Government Graduate Program. He assisted in a range of administrative law matters and drafted various contracts, funding agreements, confidentiality deeds and instruments of authorisation and delegation whilst at the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (as it was then known). Additionally, he assisted with an integrity and performance review of a major government department whilst at the Victorian Public Sector Commission.
