The Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office is proud to be joined by guest speaker Eamonn Moran PSM QC, current Inspector constituting the Victorian Inspectorate (VI).

The Victorian Inspectorate is the key oversight body in Victoria’s integrity system. It is an independent body, not subject to direction or control by the executive government.

The main role of the VI is to ensure that the agencies it oversees (IBAC, Ombudsman, OVIC, VAGO, Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Office of the Chief Examiner) are using their powers and exercising their functions properly. The VI is required to monitor the use of coercive powers (such as powers to summons and examine witnesses) by each body it oversees, and has power to receive and investigate certain complaints about particular bodies.

Additionally, the VI ensures legislative compliance with record-keeping requirements by agencies that exercise covert powers (intercepting telephone conversations, placing surveillance devices and conducting controlled operations).

In this seminar, the recently appointed Inspector, Mr Eamonn Moran PSM QC will talk about:

  • Why a Victorian Inspectorate?
  • Who is overseen by the Victorian Inspectorate?
  • Functions of the Victorian Inspectorate
  • His vision for the Victorian Inspectorate
