About the successful applicant
You are a senior and experienced lawyer with a strong understanding of the principles and practice of public law and with excellent judgment.  You are excited about leading a team of lawyers and collaborating with colleagues and clients to provide advice and representation in the diverse and challenging government sector. You understand the importance of having the right people, management and processes in place to facilitate the provision of services which are legally appropriate, apt, timely and within budget. 

The successful applicant will lead a team of solicitors of varying degrees of experience working on sensitive and complex legal matters with clients of the highest levels in government  As part of the management team in the Government and Public Law Branch, you will also contribute to the management and development of the Branch by actively engaging in client management, business development, workflow management and service delivery.  As such, you will be an experienced professional leader, with the ability to supervise and mentor staff and the capability to contribute to ensuring that the VGSO is the Victorian Government's trusted legal partner.

Applicants should have specialist knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • The principles and practice of constitutional law and administrative law, as well as strong statutory interpretation skills.
  • The management of complex and sensitive litigation in State and federal jurisdictions
  • The provision of oral and written legal advice that is fit for purpose
