About the branch
The Litigation & Dispute Resolution Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging matters. The cases are frequently topical, often involve public interest issues and offer exposure to a broad range of legal issues. These include, but are not limited to, general and Police civil claims and tortious claims, State care and personal injury matters, negligence, Crimes (Mental Impairment & Unfitness to be Tried) Act matters, Serious Offenders Act matters and inquests. The teams provide specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments.

About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic career Legal Assistants to join our Litigation & Dispute Branch as part of the legal support team that provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing correspondence and court documents – drafting and typing (dictaphone)
  • Amending & formatting documents
  • File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format
  • Diary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlines
  • Telephone assistance – both incoming and screening
  • General administration – photocopying, couriers, billing, relieving reception
  • Looking for ways to reduce the administrative workload of your solicitors

Skills and experience

  • Prior experience as a litigation Legal Assistant in a law firm
  • Confident in providing high level legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor
  • Strong understanding of litigation processes/procedures and court systems, knowledge of legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
